The extreme cold isn't playing nice with local schools.
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) and Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS) have cancelled both morning and afternoon buses on Thursday (January 11).
Schools will remain open and and diploma tests will go as scheduled.
"While we expect them (students) to make a reasonable effort to come in and write those exams, safety is paramount," said director of communication services for EIPS Laura McNabb.
If students can’t get alternate transportation, they should advise their schools as early as possible.
Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning on Wednesday. A high of only -24 C and an extreme windchill of -40 C is expected for Thursday in Fort Saskatchewan and surrounding areas.
