Fort Saskatchewan's Alice Thomas is the recipient of the highest award available to the Legion/Ladies Auxiliary.
Recently, Thomas was presented with the Palm Leaf to the Meritorious Service Award.
Thomas has been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for 71 years.
"Alice is an awesome lady," said Marie Coubrough, president of the Fort Saskatchewan Ladies Auxiliary. "She was one of my mentors. If you needed help, she was always there."
The award takes into consideration both work done for the Ladies Auxiliary and work done for the greater community.
"We couldn't even begin to count what she has done for the community and for her Ladies Auxiliary," said Margaret Koenig, command president for Alberta and the Northwest Territories. "It didn't matter to Alice what she was doing, whether it was cooking, cleaning, or just being there."
Thomas is 93-years-old.
