A 42-year-old is facing charges after multiple fires in the area.
 
The RCMP Forestry Crimes Unit has laid arson charges against a man following an in-depth investigation into a series of arsons in the Smoky Lake area.
 
On May 4, a grass fire was started on Range Road 171 east of Smoky Lake. As a result of the investigation, a suspect and suspect vehicle were identified. Sheriffs were able to help in the investigation and the suspect was observed lighting another fire on May 15.
 
On May 17, 42-year-old Daniel Kromm was arrested and charged with 23 counts of arson. The incidents dated back to 2012.

Kromm is remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on May 31.

No evidence was obtained by RCMP connecting Kromm to other fires in the area.
