A 19-year-old is facing child pornography charges.

Tanner Porteous from Sherwood Park was arrested for child pornography offences after an investigation by the Strathcona County RCMP and ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit.

In January, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided information about a Sherwood Park suspect accessing child pornography.

The former summer camp volunteer programmer was arrested on Thursday (Sept.6) after a search warrant was executed at his home. Porteous was charged with distribution and possession of child pornography.

Porteous previously worked as a camp counsellor and volunteer programmer with Camp Encounter, which is located near Lac la Nonne. Camp Encounter is owned and operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, however, investigators have no evidence to suggest any offences were committed against any children who attended the camp.

Porteous has been released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park court on September 19.
