A local volleyball coach is being recognized for his extra effort.

Salisbury Composite High School's Mark Van Drunen has been named the 2017 Coach of the Year for Division II boys volleyball by the Metro Edmonton High School Athletic Association.

Van Drunen received votes from his peers based on his dedication to the game and his conduct throughout the season.

“It’s thrilling to see Mark recognized this year,” said Cathy Allen, principal of Salisbury Composite High. “His attitude and composure always have a positive impact on his players and the teams they face. His respect and interactions with other coaches and officials has been nothing short of paramount.”

Van Drunen will be formally recognized at the Metro’s 2017 All-Star luncheon hosted on May 31.
