A couple of Rangers will be competing for Team Alberta at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.
Fort Saskatchewan Midget AAA Rangers forward Colton Dach and defenceman Matt Smith were selected to represent Alberta on the U16 stage.
"I was really excited, but my mom was actually crying," said Smith. "I think my speed and my game has improved a lot, especially in the defensive zone."
Smith has been one of the team's most consistent players this season on the back-end, while chipping in with a goal and four assists.
Dach, a Saskatoon Blades draft pick, has made his mark early in the Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League by racking up nine goals and nine assists in 21 games.
"It was pretty special, not many people get to play in this," said Dach. "It's pretty special that Matt is in it too. It's good that we know a few guys going and I think we'll have a good team."
Team Alberta U16 will also feature Fort Saskatchewan product Olen Zellweger, who plays with OHA Edmonton Prep.
In 23 games this season, the smooth skating Zellweger has 21 points.
Hockey at the Canada Winter Games runs from February 17-22.
