Fort Saskatchewan minor baseball had numerous teams one win away from provincial glory.
Over the August long weekend, the Peewee AA, Bantam AA and Midget AA Tier 1 boys competed for provincial titles.
After a nail-biting opening game loss in extra innings against Sherwood Park, the Midget AA Red Sox battled their way into the finals.
Fort Sask rattled off three straight wins over Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake and Marwayne. Faced with a rematch against Sherwood Park in the championship, the Fort fell just short in a 6-4 loss, settling for silver.
"We played extremely well on the weekend. We had a tendency to make errors during regular season play and sometimes those ended in losses, but in provincial we played some solid baseball and came out with a silver," said head coach Jason Geiger.
Geiger added that pitcher Tyler Burgett stood out to him in round robin play, throwing a complete game win in only 79 pitches.
The Bantam AA's also brought home a silver medal. In round robin the Sox went 2-1, before losing in the finals against Calgary.
For the Fort Saskatchewan Peewee AA Tier 1 Red Sox, they swept the round robin with a 3-0 record, but in the semifinals they fell against the eventual champs Sylvan Lake.
