It took a full team effort to win a league championship.
The Fort Saskatchewan female midget Rebels defeated the Parkland Posse 4-2 in the GELC Midget girls league championship.
Captain Katelyn Nixon got the Fort on the board early in the first and the Rebels would add three more from Nixon, Darcie Kondas and Jasmine Rose in the period.
"Nixon went in hard, buried a great shot and we just steamrolled from there," said head coach Norm Maxwell.
Fort Sask was held off the scoreboard for the last 40 minutes, but phenomenal defence and goaltending held a speedy Posse squad to only two goals.
"I'm a firm believer that defence wins championships, so that's been the focus of our team," added Maxwell. "If you cut through the middle in our house you're going to pay a price."
Goaltender Megan Maxwell proved to be the leagues elite, posting a 1.40 goals against average in the playoffs.
Next up for the girls will be the Alberta provincials, from July 6-9, in Lethbridge.
