A Fort Saskatchewan Midget AAA Ranger has inked a deal in the Western Hockey League (WHL).
On Monday (Apr.8), defenceman Matt Smith signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The 16-year-old was drafted in the third round of the 2018 bantam draft by Edmonton. 
In 41 total games this season, Smith had two goals and 10 assists. He also suited up for Team Alberta, who won bronze at the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
Oil Kings general manager, Kirt Hill, said in the signing release that "he is a great skater who moves the puck well and has a lot of pace to his game."
The Oil Kings are currently in the second round of the WHL playoffs, with a 3-0 series lead over the Calgary Hitmen.
