The Fort Saskatchewan Rebels are back with a vengeance in 2017.
After exiting playoffs in the first round last year, the Rebels' coaching staff had speed in mind this season.
"The defense that we're working with this year will be much faster," said Chris Redford, defensive coach of the Fort Junior B Rebels.
Fort Saskatchewan acquired Noah Flink from the St Albert Crude before the draft.
In the 2017 Midget Draft, the Rebels top five picks were goaltender Jacob Parent (St.Albert Rams), Jackson Deweerd (Leduc Crush), Ryan Wilson (Edmonton Warriors), Kaiden Collumb (Fort Rebels) and Liam McGarva (Fort Rebels).
Following the draft, the Rebels had three eligible goalies and traded away fifth year Brady Johnson, plus a 2018 second round draft pick for St Albert's Jack Marlow.
The Rebels will not have Colton Pederson, Bailey Whelan or Colby Bannister in the line-up this season.
Tyson Ferby and Brett Gubersky are returning to the team this season after taking off last year for work. The two Fort boys will offer some toughness and maturity on the defensive side of the ball.
Kevin Parker will be back as head coach. Sam Dalk will join as an assistant coach.
This is the team's second season in the Rocky Mountain tier one Lacrosse League.
Fort Sask starts preseason this Friday (April 7) against the Senior B Warriors. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the DCC.
