The Fort Saskatchewan Junior B Hawks showed they can compete with the league's elite, defeating the Beaumont Chiefs 4-3 in OT.
Sunday night (November 12), the Hawks had to rely on their penalty killing unit and strong defence, but still held on for the win.
Justin Ferris was the hero with 34 seconds left to go in overtime.
"I just let them do their thing. I know when we get penalties, it's not my time to shine. We got some guys out there who are really skilled out there on the PK and it showed tonight killing off that five minute off late in the third," said Ferris.
Fort got two goals from Ferris and one from both Tyson Davey and Jesse Morrison.
"It was a huge divisional game and we needed the points trying to gain ground on these guys," added Ferris.
Micah Bonneville made 34 saves in the victory.
Next up for the Hawks will be a Wednesday night matchup in Edmonton against the North Edmonton Redwings, puck drop is at 8:00 p.m.
