The Fort Sask U19B Ice ended their season in storybook fashion.
The Ice were crowned Alberta provincial champions in Fort McMurray over the weekend (Mar.22-24).
"It's an unbelievable feeling. The girls worked extremely hard," said head coach Rob Phelan. "I'm so proud of the girls and the effort they put in. We just peaked at the right moment."
In round robin play, Fort Sask defeated Strathmore 7-5 and Fort McMurray 9-5, but lost to Hinton 8-6.
"I think the turning point in the whole tournament was the game against Fort McMurray. Coming out of that game in pretty dominating fashion gave the girls the motivation and knowledge that they could beat anyone there," added Phelan.
The loss didn't slow the girls down one bit, as they clobbered Calgary 7-3 in the semifinals.
With a gold medal on the line, the defence shut the door and the offence filled the net in a 6-1 win over Beaumont.
