A local volleyball coach is being recognized for her efforts.
Fort Saskatchewan High School's Kim Sawatzky has been named the 2017 Coach of the Year for Division IV girls volleyball by the Metro Edmonton High School Athletic Association.
Peers voted for her based on her dedication to the game and her commitment to excellence within the sport.
“Kim’s pledge to a positive environment speaks for itself,” said Shaun Grainger of Fort High’s athletics department. “To have her recognized for the impressive way she interacts with players, parents, coaches and officials is very exciting.”
The Fort High senior girls volleyball team went 8-1 in the regular season, before losing to Millwoods Christian in their league final.
“I’ve learned a lot from coach Sawatzky this year, she’s a great coach and expects a lot from us,” said Myah Grieve who played for Sawatzky.
Sawatzky will be formally recognized at the Metro Athletics’ 2017 All-Star luncheon on May 31.
