The St. Albert Midget AAA Slash are heading back to the Esso Cup.

Two Fort Saskatchewan girls, Vanessa Verbitsky and Allison Reich helped the Slash repeat as pacific champions.

"Before this year, I've never won provincials or anything cool like that in hockey, so just to win provincials and all the way through pacifics makes it that much more special," said Reich.

Provincials look place two weeks ago in Red Deer.

This past weekend, the Slash travelled to Richmond, BC to take on the Greater Vancouver Comets in a best-of-three series. Winning would mean playing for a shot at the national championship.

The Slash won the first game 4-2, lost the second game 4-2 and then when their season was on the line, the girls finished strong defensively with a 1-0 win.

"It was very exciting, we did really well as a team just from the start we've played really strong," added Reich.

The 2018 Esso Cup runs Apr.22-28 in Bridgwater, Nova Scotia.

St. Albert is looking to repeat, they were athe 2017 Esso Cup champions.
