It was a battle all the way to the end for the Fort.

The Fort Saskatchewan female midget Rebels dropped the third and deciding provincial final game 4-2 against the Calgary Hornets.

After losing game one of the series, 5-3, the Rebels were faced with an uphill battle.

They managed to win game two, 7-5 and forced a game three.

In the final game, penalties cost the Rebels, who gave up three powerplay goals.

"The commitment by the girls was amazing," said head coach Norm Maxwell.

Battling temperatures well over 30 Celsius (even reaching 36 with the humidex), extra exhaustion was added on to the game.

The girls are the only Fort lacrosse team to advance to provincials this season.

"The Fort Saskatchewan community supports lacrosse like no one else, it's great," added Maxwell.

Next season is looking very bright for the Rebels. They will return seven players and send the rest onto junior women's clubs.
