The St. John Paul II senior boys and girls basketball teams did well over the weekend.

The 2017 Dave Thompson Sting Cup took place on Friday and Saturday (Dec.1 and 2) and both teams went home with silver medals.

The senior girls made it to the gold medal game, then  lost 67-51 to the St. Mary's Saints from Vegreville.

"They did really well," said Sarah Balla, head coach of the JP II senior girls team. "I think collectively the girls were strong. Everybody had a moment where they were able to try and do something."

The senior boys lost their final, 75-50, to the Bonnyville Roadrunners.

Fort High Sting senior girls also had a good weekend, winning bronze in their game against Vegreville Composite High. The Fort High senior boys played Vegreville for bronze as well, but they came up just short.

The senior boys teams have a tournament next weekend at W.P. Wagner (December 7-9) and the senior girls have a tournament the weekend after at JP II.
