11-year-old boy killed during Edmonton shooting

An 11-year-old boy and his father have been killed after a shooting in Edmonton on Thursday.

Just after noon, police responded to reports of a shooting at a Petro-Canada gas station near 50 Street and Ellerslie Road.

When officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy in medical distress. EMS responded, but both had died from their injuries and were pronounced dead on scene.

Just after the incident, police were notified of a vehicle fire in the area of 34 Street and Township Road 510, north of Beaumont. Police are investigating to see if there’s a link between the shooting and vehicle fire.

EPS Homicide Section is now investigating and have determined that the two who were killed were father and son. Their autopsies have yet to be scheduled.

“The loss or injury of children as a result of gunfire is unfathomable and we urge anyone with information that may assist this investigation to come forward as soon as possible,” said Staff Sergeant Rob Bilawey.

Anyone with information on the shooting are being asked to contact EPS at 780-423-45
