There's a growing concern in Lamont County.

In September, the county, which has a large Ukrainian population, came together with representatives from Nebyliv, Ukraine to sign a memorandum of understanding as ‘twin’ municipalities.

The initiative was intended to help the two communities exchange information and culture.

According to Lamont County, since Russia invaded the country, they have been unable to contact Nebryliv regarding the Russian aggression. They have, however, noticed in the media that the Ivano-Frankivsk area, the area the community resides in, has experienced bombing and missile attacks.

"We are very concerned for our twinning partners," stated the county.

They did note they were happy to see the province extend their support toward Ukraine by contributing $1-million for humanitarian aid.

"We are hoping for a swift resolution."

The county was hoping to have some form of event to celebrate 130 years since the first Ukrainian settlers came to Canada, but those plans have been postponed indefinetly.
