The year is coming to an end, so what better time to reflect on the year that was? 

According to hits on FortSaskOnline.com, here's a look at the five most popular local news stories from 2022. 

#5 - Shooting at the Brant

On April 13, a man wielding a shotgun opened fire in the Brant Hotel bar. A bullet grazed one man's head, resulting in minor injuries.

The suspect also robbed the place. There was no word on if RCMP eventually caught the man responsible. 

#4 - Highway 15 bridge opens up 

After years of construction, the new Highway 15 bridge finally opened for traffic. This helped streamline a very busy highway and was met with significant support from the community. 

#3 - Damien Starrett is sentenced 

The heartbreaking story of the death of one-year-old Ares after being attacked by his father, Damien Starrett, came to an end in September. 

Starrett was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to seven years in prison. 

#2 - Rare animals pop up in the Fort 

Some unexpected visitors were spotted in the community this past year. 

In January, a resident spotted a fisher rummaging around her patio door. A video can be seen here

More recently, in October, a trio of raccoons were spotted scavenging about. 

#1 - Fort Saskatchewan ravaged by fires

It was not a great year for fires in the community. 

In the summer, a suspected arsonist set fire to a local daycare and dental clinic. Luckily, no injuries were sustained. 

Then, the unthinkable happened in October when a fire ripped through multiple townhouses in Woodsmere Close, leaving six families without a home.
