Strathcona County has released a guide for citizens looking to throw their hat in the ring for the upcoming election.

The Election 2017 - Candidate Information Guide contains valuable information for potential candidates. It includes the duties and responsibilities of elected officials, remuneration and benefits, candidate qualifications, campaign requirements, nomination process, ward maps and more.

"It's really important that any individual who is considering running make themselves aware of what the expectations are and the legislative requirements with regards to their eligibility as well as what their responsibilities are, should they become elected," explained manager of Legislative Services for the county, Jacqueline Roblin.

Positions up for grabs include mayor, eight council positions, as well as the Board of Trustees for Elk Island Catholic and Public Schools. All of these spots carry a four year commitment.

Nomination Day is on September 18 while Election Day is set for October 16.
