Strathcona County is taking a stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
Friday afternoon (Feb. 25), the county raised the Ukrainian flag in Volunteer Plaza to show support during Russia's invasion. Students from the St. Theresa Ukrainian Bilingual Program sang the Ukraine national anthem as the flag was raised.
“Strathcona County is home to a vibrant population of Ukrainian-Canadians, many of whom are fearing for family and friends in Ukraine,” said mayor Rod Frank. “Strathcona County sends its thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the events unfolding overseas.”
Members of the public and the county attended the ceremony and the event was live-streamed.
Starting Friday night, the Strathcona County Community Centre tower is also being lit blue and yellow.
