Strathcona County Emergency Services were able to stop a bad situation from getting a lot worse.

On Tuesday (Apr. 26) just after 9 p.m., firefighters were called to a house fire in Sherwood Park near Coachman Way. Crews arrived to find smoke coming out of the attic in the attached garage.

The heat and smoke in the garage made it difficult for the firefighters to see the problem. They started pulling some of the eaves to better assess where the smoke was coming from and found a smouldering fire, and was able to get it under control.

"There was no spread, so they did a really good job of limiting the damage to just to the garage portion of the house," said deputy chief Dana Terry.

No one was injured.

The fire investigator believes smoking materials were the cause of the fire.
