Springtime in Alberta has Poor Visibility in Fort Saskatchewan. Photo By Andrew Nakonechny

April 1st is known as a day for fun and pranks but commuters were only hoping that the forecast was an elaborate hoax.

Poor visibility has blanketed the Heartland and Capital regions with snow and strong winds.  Environment Canada issued a Weather Alert for the system moving through Central Alberta that should move through by late Thursday.

Snow accumulations will be between 5 to 10cm and strong winds gusting to 80 km/h.

Road conditions around Fort Saskatchewan are in good to fair condition with poor visibility being a factor due to blowing snow.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and drive to the conditions.
