Slowing down when a tow truck is working could save a life.

In Alberta, drivers are required by law to drive 60 km/h or the posted speed limit when passing tow trucks at work.

"People need to treat the flashing amber lights of tow trucks with the same respect as they do for police, fire services or ambulances," said Gary Power, operations manager at Titan Towing.

Same goes for tow trucks working on a flat tire or giving a boost, drivers need to slow down and be aware of their surroundings.

"Don't travel in the adjacent lane if can, you never know when someone is going to step out of their vehicle."

The law is in place to keep workers safe.
