A local hockey hero will be playing a bit closer to home.

Kaiden Guhle was traded to the Edmonton Oil Kings by the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for winger Carson Latimer and defenceman Eric Johnston.

The 19-year-old defenceman and Sherwood Park native was selected first overall by the Raiders in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft and was a first-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Ghule was recently selected to participate in Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp in Calgary next week.

He also was a member of the Canadian team at the 2021 World Juniors, where he helped lead the team to a silver medal.

The 2022 World Juniors take place from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer.
