A local bakery is doing its part to help Ukraine.
Confetti Sweets in Sherwood Park recently donated over $35,000 to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation with their blue and yellow sugar cookies and cookie mix.
According to Confetti Sweets operations manager Danielle Power, that's just under 23,000 cookies sold and more than 200 pounds of yellow and blue sprinkles.
Initially, they wanted to hold a small fundraiser, but the idea took off.
"When things started happening in Ukraine, we all kind of collectively had to do something to support it. A lot of staff here and our owner is Ukrainian, so it was definitely a cause that was close to our hearts," said Power.
"It definitely meant some busy, crazy long days here at the bakery for everyone involved; it was still worth it."
The cookies are still being sold, and proceeds continue to flow to the Ukraine effort. Power added if people show up and the cookies are sold out, they can get a gift card for a dozen cookies with the proceeds donated.
