Two people have been taken to the hospital after a crash on Thursday (June 18).

At around 11:15 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a collision involving a truck and a semi-tractor on Highway 216 southbound, near the Sherwood Park Freeway exit.

Police believe the truck was reversing on the right shoulder of the highway when it struck the passenger side of the semi. The semi, which was carrying diesel fuel, caught fire and crossed all southbound lanes into the meridian.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was re-routed for several hours while the area was being cleaned up.
