A section of Highway 21 was closed Wednesday afternoon as Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services conduct an investigation on a fatal collision. 

The Collision occured before 11am Wednesday morning and RCMP have kept Highway 21 southbound between the Whitemud and Highway 14 closed.  The highway has been re-opened with one lane alternating traffic. 

Strathcona County RCMP released the details of the accident:

A 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche pulling a small utility trailer was travelling southbound on Highway 21 when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and collided with a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am which was traveling north.  The 18 year old male driver of the Avalanche was transported by ground ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  A male passenger of the Avalanche was pronounced deceased at the scene. No details on age or name are available at this time.

The 50 year old female driver of the Grand Am (lone occupant) was also transported by ground ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the incident. Road conditions at the time were slippery with icy sections.

Strathcona County RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate at this time.
