The hedge that borders Legacy Park in downtown Fort Saskatchewan will be cut down to ground level this week, December 14 to December 18, as part of a revitalization program for the historic shrubs. The hedge, which has been growing since the 1930s, has been showing signs of stress and other plant species have invaded and compromised the overall appearance. According to Jean Dabels "The best solution for returning the hedge to a healthy state is to cut it back" Dabels also said " What we are hoping by cutting it back to ground it will come back healthier and we can keep it more under control in the future"

Dabels did comment saying there should be noticeable growth within a few years.
