Elk Island Public Schools say they're pleased to see the Province's amendment to the Public Education Collective Bargaining Act.
Board Chair Trina Boymook says "School Boards will now be at the table to determine what central matters will be in the first collective agreement." Boymook notes "they hope other areas not addressed with amendments are dealt with." The first round of bargaining with teachers is set to start in the spring of 2016.
Boymook says "all 61 School Boards in Alberta met individually with Alberta Education representatives in September 2015 for two hours to talk about different models of Provincial and local bargaining." Boymook adds "they came together again two weeks ago to talk about School Boards' reaction to bill 8 and what items they feel need to be addressed before third reading." Third reading was passed one week ago on December 8.
