Police have found the remains of a missing woman.

Billie Johnson, 30, was reported missing on Dec.28, 2020. Over a month later, on Feb.6, 35-year-old Kenneth Courtorielle was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

An additional charge of indignity to a body is pending.

Despite making an arrest, Johnson's body was still missing. Police asked rural landowners in the surrounding Edmonton area to check their property and, on Wednesday (Apr.21), Edmonton Police Services (EPS) investigators and search and rescue volunteers found her remains.

“This was a difficult investigation from the onset based on the circumstances surrounding Billie’s disappearance,” said Staff Sergeant Leathem of the EPS Homicide Section. “Homicide detectives worked tirelessly on the file and are very relieved to bring some form of comfort to Billie’s family in the recovery of their loved one’s remains.”

As the investigation into Johnson's death is still ongoing, police are not providing the location of where her remains were found.
