Morinville town councillors will not have their childcare reimbursed.
Council will not be following through with a childcare reimbursement policy that would have given each member up to $4,000 per year.
A few weeks ago, the idea was brought forward by councillor Brennan Fitzgerald; he referred to communities around Calgary that have already implemented this policy.
"It's a playing field that has to be level for everybody," said Nicole Boutestein, deputy mayor in Morinville.
Council did receive some backlash from the community online and at other meetings that no other jobs offer this kind of compensation to their employees.
"If you're not offering it to all the other town employees, then I don't think council needs it," added Boutestein.
Council shut down the motion by a vote of 4-2.
