Mounties are keeping the public in the loop with a brand-new app.
The Alberta RCMP app provides access to news, crime reporting, detachment locations, as well as a crime map and statistics.
Also included is a map for their Project Lock Up initiative, which shows locations that have been repeatedly victimized by crime.
With the app, two clicks will take you to local crime stats in Fort Saskatchewan, Strathcona County, Morinville, Redwater and surrounding areas.
“An app is an easy way for the public to stay connected and report crime to the police along with gaining quick and easy access to Alberta RCMP news and information,” said superintendent Peter Tewfik, officer in charge of the Alberta RCMP’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Branch.
“Having an app will provide the public with an option for digital accessibility that is convenient and centralised.”
Additionally, the app also provides access to partner law enforcement services, mental health support, Crime Stoppers and links to Alberta RCMP social media accounts.
The tool will not replace other crime reporting methods, engagement, or emergency assistance and remind the public that social media or other third-party crime apps are not appropriate ways to report a crime.
The Alberta RCMP app is available on iOS and Android devices.
