The Town of Morinville has a new interim CAO.

Michelle Hay started off her career bouncing between several different industries, moving from radio and television to construction to the Rural Municipalities Association.

From there, Hay moved on to the City of Leduc and did municipal work as the director of government relations and corporate planning strategy.

She moved to Morinville in April of 2021. Her role became the general manager of administrative services.

"It's been really exciting. I've been afforded a great opportunity to expand my knowledge and use my generalist type skills to further the community and the organization and the people within it, so it's been quite gratifying," she said.

In February, she was appointed as the new interim CAO for the town. She is filling after former CAO Stephane Labonne left to pursue a leadership opportunity in British Columbia.

“We are very pleased that Ms. Hay has accepted the interim CAO position. She is an experienced municipal leader and will serve the Town of Morinville well,” said mayor Barry Boersma. “Council is confident and very appreciative of Ms. Hay’s ability to lead the organization during this recruitment process.”

As interim CAO, she still has her normal responsibilities on top of directing the town leaders and managers to help with council.

She said it is an extra challenge but she is committed to keeping the town on track to ensure continuity for the community.

The town is currently in the process of looking for a permanent replacement.

When she isn't at work she spends a lot of time with her two boys and camping with her family.
