A woman has died after a head-on collision early Sunday morning in Sturgeon County.
The Morinville RCMP say a truck was travelling northbound on Highway 28 at around 12:30 a.m. when it crossed into the wrong lane at the Sturgeon Road intersection, crashed into an SUV and then veered into the ditch.
A woman driving the SUV died shortly after the collision. A child passenger in the vehicle was also injured and taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital via STARS.
Police believe alcohol was a factor and arrested the man driving the truck on scene.
Morinville RCMP, along with the assistance of an RCMP collision reconstructionist, are continuing to investigate.
The intersection is now passable.
