The University of Alberta Golden Bears men's hockey team are Western Canadian conference champions after defeating the University of British Columbia 7-0 in the second game of the Canada West Final Saturday (Mar.19), their fourth title in five years.
The Golden Bears finished the season first in Canada West with a 16-4-0 record and 33 points.
It's also the Bears' 56th Western Canadian conference title since 1934.
The Bears took charge early in the game with a 3-0 lead after the first period. Alberta scored three more times in the second period, with UBC unable to find a chance to score. While their final game was a total blowout, Game 1 was much tighter with a 4-2 win against UBC.

Other local players include Jake Bennett, Sherwood Park's Joel Lakusta, Dylan Plouffe, and Grayson Pawlenchuk from Ardrossan.
The 2022 University Cup kicks off March 31 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, as the Bears aim for a record 17th University Cup title.
