A few local hockey players may be heading to the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship.

On Wednesday (Dec.1), Hockey Canada announced the players invited to the World Juniors selection camp. From there, Team Canada will build a roster for the upcoming tournament.

Among the list of players invited to the camp are Fort Saskatchewan's Olen Zellweger, Sherwood Park's Kaiden Guhle and former Ranger Sebastian Cossa.

The selection camp takes place in Calgary from Dec. 9-13.

Guhle is a returning defenceman, getting two goals and an assist over seven games for Canada last year. He was the Prince Albert Raiders' first-round selection, first overall, in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft and was later a first-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2020.

Zellweger is currently a defenceman with the Everett Silvertips, and Cossa is a goalie for the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The World Juniors run from Dec.26 to Jan.5 in Edmonton and Red Deer.
