A couple of local athletes will be playing in the 2023 Alberta Senior Bowl next month.

Both Sturgeon Composite running back Stefan Visscher and Salisbury receiver Sam Bowen will play for the North team in this year's game.

"It feels good, it's something I have been striving towards for the past four years," said Visscher. "I remember getting cut three years in a row and it's just really rewarding to be finally recognized for all the hard work."

Both Bowen and Visscher have already committed to the Edmonton Wildcats of the CJFL for next season. While the two have met while participating in camps over the last few months, this will be their first time playing together on a team.

"It will be nice to grow this friendship on an official team," said Visscher.

For Visscher, this game holds a lot of importance for both him and Sturgeon Composite.

"I really want to represent Sturgeon Composite High School with everything I got," said Visscher. "I'm going to give it my all so all the other schools and all the other scouts really know what Sturgeon is made out of."

"It feels good to represent this school one last time in a big hurrah."

The game will take place in Lacombe on May 22 at MEGlobal Stadium.
