Early registration for kindergarten in the Fort is off to a hot start.

Every spring, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) starts registration early for the upcoming school year.

In 2016-2017 there were 1432 students registered for kindergarten in EIPS.

"We have close to 50 kindergarten students registered at our new elementary school [SouthPointe]," said Eileen Zimmerman, associate superintendent with Elk Island Public Schools.

Enrollment numbers continue to rise due to Fort Saskatchewan's growing population.

Starting in the spring, EIPS will hold information nights for parents where they can tour schools, see classrooms and ask questions.

Registering before April 30 ensures that each school can meet classroom requirements and that teaching arrangements can be made before summer.

More information on kindergarten registration and information nights can be found on the EIPS website.
