All season, I have been organizing an event for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities for Fort Saskatchewan on December 3. The day is recognized by the United Nations to allow all communities to bring attention to the various contributions of persons with disabilities to society. This year, the event happened to fall on a Thursday. I was so very pleased with the turnout; lots of people took the time out of their busy lives to be at City Hall for the event… Including Mayor Gale Katchur.
I was lucky enough to have two other people, Val and Pauline (who was not able to make it), plan the day with me. I took it upon myself to invite many dignitaries in this city. I have also secured City Hall as the venue, and the Mayor to sign the proclamation. I have contacted A&W and Co-Op to donate refreshments as well, and they agreed to do so. I was able to make a poster of quotes and pictures from different people where I asked them a question (photo below).
A special thank you to Jonathan Milke, who had everything set up for me at City Hall, and to Mayor Gale Katchur for signing the proclamation… And to all the people who were involved. I even contacted the local newspapers for advertising. I am really thankful because some of the people that were able to be there only found out about my event in the newspaper.
I was beginning to feel the pressure the last few weeks. I am glad everything worked out.
