A local MLA is reacting to the situation in Ukraine.
Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk says she supports the strongest sanctions possible as well as humanitarian and lethal aid to be sent to Ukraine.
"I am heartbroken for the people of Ukraine and disgusted by the actions of Putin's blood-soaked regime," she said. "Our hearts go out to family and residents of Ukraine."
Armstrong-Homeniuk is of Ukrainian descent and is the chair of the Advisory Council on Alberta-Ukraine relations.
She says she's pleased to see the provincial government contribute $1-million to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress to help coordinate and deliver humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
The province has also directed Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) to halt new registrations of Russian-made liquor products and is refusing to accept any new stock shipped to Alberta.
AGLC is also prohibiting the sale of any Russian-made liquor already in Alberta to retail licensees.
