The Fort Saskatchewan Minor Fastball Association is getting a funding boost.

They are the May winner for Half Grand Helping Hand from MIX 107 and South Fort Chevrolet.

"It is very exciting," said president Ashley Eaton.

Currently, the girls' league does not have a baseball diamond to call home. They are in the process of building a fence around one of the diamonds behind the Sportsplex arena, which is where the $500 will go towards.

According to Eaton, it can be difficult to schedule time when they are trying to share a spot with the boys.

"We're really excited to get that fenced diamond for next season so that it that will be like our main home field."

Construction should be complete by the time the next season rolls around.

The association has been rebuilding its girls' league after numbers dropped due to COVID-19. Eaton said they are almost back to their old numbers, but they still struggle to get more players for their younger age groups.

You can nominate a group, organization, or sports team to win a Half Grand Helping Hand here. A winner will be drawn on the last Thursday of every month at 8:20 a.m. on MIX 107.
