The Gibbon’s Town Wide Garage Sale is returning this year.

Touted as the ‘largest garage sale in Alberta,’ the event is back after being cancelled in 2020.

Every year, on the Saturday after Labour Day long weekend, reportedly, the Town of Gibbons welcomes around 6,000 bargain hunters from all over the province.

“I’ve had messages from people from Grande Prairie asking ‘are you having the garage sale?’ so they can take time off work,” said Eric Paterson, recreation and youth coordinator in Gibbons.

Between 400-500 vendors sign up each year to take part in the sale. The town collects a small fee from vendors who set up shop along the town’s main roads.

“It’s a big day, that’s for sure.”

Food trucks come to the town to set up a small food court area for everyone to stop and snack while they shop.

Last year was the first time in nearly 40 years that the event was a no-go.

This year’s garage sale will take place on September 11 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
