An Ardrossan elementary school was recently impacted by a gas leak.

On Tuesday (May 3), just after 2 p.m., Strathcona County Emergency Services was informed of a gas line strike at the intersection of Range Road 213 and Township Road 524.

RCMP was called as well to handle traffic control.

Uncas School was in the area during this time and was starting to let everyone out for the day, which was a challenge for the crews while they were still looking into the issue.

"First, we sheltered everybody in the school until we could make sure that the environment was safe and that the school area was not affected by the gas leak. Then we allowed the school buses and their parents to safely take away the children," explained deputy chief Barry Bouwsema.

The scene was cleared by around 8 p.m., and the school was open as normal the following day.

It's believed the above-ground gas line was hit by a vehicle. The investigation is still ongoing.
