A Mario-themed birthday parade for Lucas Pierce was a big hit on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 1).

Pierce, now three years old, is fighting neuroblastoma cancer. He was diagnosed in May, and his family wanted to give him one special day.

"We were only expecting a few cars," said Amanda James, Lucas's mom. "He deserves it; he does way more than we do."

Michelle George, a family friend who regards as an aunt, organized the whole event in less than a month.

People from all over the area decorated their cars, dressed up, and came to celebrate, including the fire department, peace officers, mayor Gale Katchur, the Fort Saskatchewan public works department and Six Pak Saloon.

Six Pak Saloon, a local community of motorcycle enthusiasts who offer to fundraise for various causes, raised over $1,000 for Lucas.

The whole family was overwhelmed with the support from the community.

"I just can't believe Fort Saskatchewan all pulled together and just made it perfect," said aunt Cathy Cowper-Smith.

"[The best part of the parade was] the look on my grandson's face," said Ingrid James, Lucas' grandma.

Just about everyone was in happy tears watching the ecstatic boy enjoy his parade.
