Fort Saskatchewan Youth Action Club is working on a new project called "Sole Hope". The project provides shoes to those living in Uganda to keep foot related disease from those living there. The reason is to protect Ugandan's from Jiggers,  Jiggers are small sand fleas that burrow into the bare feet of thousands of Ugandan children who often live their lives without adequate footwear. The result is infection, gangrene, paralysis, and occasionally amputation or even death.  These children walk, work, and play all day in harsh conditions with no shoes on their feet. The damage these conditions play on their feet make a perfect entrance for many diseases and the home of many parasites.

In their efforts to help Youth Action Club has started a Jean Drive during the month of October. The jeans that are collected will be cut into patterns that will be sent to Uganda and made into shoes. Several local schools are helping collect jeans or you can drop them off at City Hall from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
