Our local MLA has been banned from entering Russia.

Earlier this month, Russia imposed sanctions on 333 Canadians, including public officials and prominent Olympians. These sanctions include a lifetime ban from entering the country.

Of those is Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk.

“As a proud Ukrainian and a vocal opponent to Vladimir Putin’s war of aggression in Ukraine, I have never been happier to be on a list," wrote Armstrong-Homeniuk in a release.

"Putin is fighting a losing battle. News of this ban only strengthens my resolve against him and his evil regime."

Morinville-St.Albert MLA Dale Nally was also banned.

"Honestly, other than the few moments that we laughed about it yesterday, I really haven't spent a ton of time thinking about it," said Nally.

Other local politicians that have been sanctioned by Russia include MP for Sherwood Park-Fort Saskatchewan Garnett Genuis and former premier Ed Stelmach.

Actor Jim Carrey and author Margaret Atwood have also been banned.
