Some local communities are growing, while some are shrinking.
Statistics Canada recently released the 2021 federal census data, which shows Fort Saskatchewan now has a population of 27,088. This is up 12.1 per cent from the 2016 census.
The population used to be 24,169.
Strathcona County also saw a population growth over the last few years, though a smaller one. The population in 2016 was reported to be 98,024. Now it is 99,225, a 1.2 per cent increase.
Sturgeon County saw a slight drop in population. Their current population is 20,061, down 2.1 per cent from their population of 20,495 in 2016.
