Fort Saskatchewan soccer players dominated the field at the Polar Cup Tournament.
The Edmonton Minor Soccer Association held its Polar Cup Tournament from Dec.27 to 29, which saw three teams from Fort Saskatchewan medal at the event.
The Arsenal U11 girls kicked off the tournament with a 7-1 win against Horse Hill; a strong defence helped to keep the game primarily in Horse Hill’s end. They also came out on top during game two of the tournament with a 4-3 win against Lorelai Beaumaris.
Day two of the tournament saw the U11’s walk away with a 4-1 victory against Beaumont. In the final game, the team battled hard; however, they were ultimately defeated 4-3 by the Belmead Bulldogs, landing them the silver medal.
The U11 goal scorers of the tournament were Brittica, Mya H., Priya, Sofie and Tessa.
In the first game of the U13 series, the girls defeated the Strikers 3-2, followed by a 4-0 win against Ponoka. Their final game against the Willowby Hurricanes was an exciting game that resulted in a draw and a gold medal for the local team.
Goal scorers for the tournament were Alyssa, Claire, Hailey, Olivia, Paydin, Rory.
The U15’s also won the gold medal. They began the tournament with a 10-0 win against the Millwoods Selects, followed by a 3-3 tie against the Saints. Their third game against Scottish United (Seitinger) resulted in a 5-0 win. The win streak continued into the gold medal game, where they landed another 5-0 win against Scottish United (Keppler).
The U15 Goalkeeper, Kayla, was credited for having a shutout in three of four games.
