Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the area.

The weather agency says extreme wind chills are expected into next week -- the coldest wind chill values will be between -40 C and -50 C.

These types of warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

The warning is in place for communities such as Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, Edmonton, Morinville, Redwater, Gibbons, Bon Accord, Lamont and Bruderheim.
